Contending for the Faith at Southern Seminary, 1984 - 1994
Olivia Kimbrell Press, January 2020
*Winner of the 2021 Selah Award for Nonfiction
During the 1980’s and 1990’s, a fierce battle raged between conservatives and liberals within the Southern Baptist Convention, the world’s largest Protestant denomination. Conservatives insisted that the liberals were promoting heresy in their seminaries, while the liberals denied it. As a national investigation was launched, a young man on Southern Seminary’s Board of Trustees discovered manipulations of the investigation and stood dramatically against the perpetrators. Given this institution’s stature and global reach, the impact of the conflict would be felt around the world for decades to come.

The Whisper of the Palms
Olivia Kimbrell Press, March 2017
Growing up in the foothills of North Carolina, Ali Blackwell dreamed of going places she had only seen in books and magazines. She lived in a small farmhouse that her farmer father had built with his own hands, and the prospects of ever leaving her little town of Union Mills appeared unlikely.
Kyle Edmonds, a few years her elder, lived in a larger house in South Carolina. He possessed things Ali only dreamed of—extra clothes and shoes, a house with indoor plumbing and electricity, a family car, a bicycle and other toys, just to name some. They could not have been more different. However, both heard God’s still small voice calling them to foreign missions. How will their paths cross? What obstacles will they face? What will their future hold?
