In 2023, Harriet was named as a finalist in the Selah Awards for her essay, “Angel or Alien?” which went on to win 3rd place in the Essays category at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference.

In 2023, Harriet won an Ames Award, presented by Kerysso Press, for her book, Glimpses of God: an Autumn Devotional for Women, in the Seasonal/Holiday category.

In May of 2021 Harriet was named a finalist in that year’s Selah Awards in two categories. At the ceremony she took 2nd place in the “Articles in Print” category.  A Stand for Truth, a book she co-authored with her husband, John, was named the first place winner in the Nonfiction Books category.

Later that summer Harriet won a 2021 Cascade Award from the Oregon Christian Writers Conference,  taking 1st place in Published Nonfiction Short Stories.

Harriet entered the 2011 Women of Faith Unpublished Manuscript Contest (sponsored by Thomas Nelson/Zondervan’s WestBow Press). Her manuscript for “Prayer: It’s Not About You” was one of only 35 finalists out of over 750 entries.

But her first writing award came in high school when she won a “Laurel Leaf”, a writing award given by the English department of her high school. That was a long time ago, but she still has the little gold pin (pictured at left) and still remembers how it boosted her confidence and gave her hope that she might someday become a writer. She also won a city-wide writing competition in high school.
